TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned a number of witnesses in relation to a graft case surrounding the electronic identity cards (e-KTP) procurement project. Two witnesses, among others, showed up at the KPK building in Jakarta. They were Functional Group (Golkar) Party’s legal division head Rudi Alfonso and former politician of the People’s Conscience (Hanura) Party Miryam S. Haryani.
“I will be probed as a witness for suspect SN [Setya Novanto],” Rudi told Tempo yesterday, Nov. 6, after arriving at 9:35 a.m.
Miryam arrived at 11:15 wearing an orange vest as she has been indicted for committing a perjury during a trial for the e-KTP graft case.
“[I’m being questioned] for Setya Novanto,” Miryam said.
For the second time, the KPK named Setya Novanto as a suspect in the graft case. A letter ordering an investigation into Setya Novanto was issued yesterday and signed by KPK investigation director Aris Budiman on October 31.
KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah neither dismissed nor confirmed the existence of the letter. “What is certain is that the KPK is investigating [the case] and strengthening the legal construction for the e-KTP case,” he said.
Setya was named as a suspect in the same case on July 17, 2017. Setya Novanto was allegedly involved in the embezzlement of the project’s budget causing Rp2.3 trillion in state losses. On September 29, Setya Novanto’s suspect name was considered illegal after the sole judge of the South Jakarta District Court granted Setya Novanto’s pretrial motion.
