TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Chief Tito Karnavian will meet President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the near future over the development of the investigation into an acid attack against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan.

“The Police Chief will explain to Mr. President the steps taken by the National Police, including those that have been and will be done,” Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Rikwanto said at the Police Headquarters in Jakarta on November 6.

According to Rikwanto, the meeting may be held this week. He added that police are determined to resolve the case by examining dozens of witnesses, CCTV footages, and expert witnesses.

Therefore, Rikwanto expects civil society not to make things worse by issuing statements that undermine the police. He said that the people should instead actively provide new information to help crack down on the case.

The acid attack on Novel Baswedan took place on April 11. He was attacked by two individuals after performing the morning prayer near his house in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
