TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A recent survey conducted by pollster Indikator Politik Indonesia indicated that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi would gather the most supports should the presidential election be held this year.

With an open simulation, the survey shows that Jokowi gained supports from 34.2 percent of respondents, and 11.5 percent of them vote for Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party Prabowo Subianto.

“This is what we call the spontaneous electability,” Indikator Politik Indonesia executive director said in Jakarta yesterday, Oct. 11.

When being offered with 45 names, 47.3 percent of respondents voted for President Jokowi, and 19 percent others chose Prabowo Subianto. Other names included Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Anies Baswedan, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, Gatot Nurmantyo, and Hary Tanoesoedibyo.

During a simulation with six names, President Jokowi gained 55.3 percent of supports, followed by Prabowo with 26.6 percent of support. Anies and Gatot gained 3.5 percent and 2.9 percent of supports, respectively.

Therefore, the survey in general, indicates that Jokowi would gain more votes than his rivals should the presidential election be held in Septembre 2017. However, Burhanudin reminded political parties endorsing President Jokowi that the head-to-head simulation showed tight results. Jokowi gained 58.9 percent of supports, and Prabowo managed to gather 31.3 percent of the votes.

Burhan pointed out that the results could change since Prabowo has not yet initiated any political campaigns since 2014. Although President Jokowi had visited regions across Indonesia, his electability level remains between 40 and 50 percent.

“It means that the number of people who are loyal to Prabowo is still solid, about one-third of the total votes,” he said.
