TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yunarto Wijaya, the executive director of pollster Charta Politika said President Joko Widodo or Jokowi`s running mate in the upcoming presidential election will be based on the economic, political and justice conditions.

According to Yunarto, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati would the perfect vice president for Jokowi if he was focusing on economic growth and development. Meanwhile, if the political situation was unstable, Jokowi should run with Military Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo or National Police Gen. Tito Karnavian.

“It will depend on the political, economic, and internal situations. However, three major names are Gatot, Tito, and Sri Mulyani,” he said

Yunarto pointed out that Jokowi would need to address three crucial issues in order to win the presidential election in 2019. “The first one is achievements in the economic sector, which is the fundamental need for all voters,” he explained.

The second one is related to the infrastructure development that needs huge investment. In this case, Yunarto said, policies related to common citizens are frequently sacrificed.

Economic issues also occur among the upper-middle class people, particularly those related to taxes. Yunarto said progressive taxes often sacrifice activities in the private sector that are not yet accustomed with high taxes.

Political and justice issues, he added, would remain challenges for Jokowi’s administration. Yunarto pointed out that Jokowi has a job to address groups who push identity political agendas in order to prevent horizontal conflicts. In terms of justice, Yunarto said that Jokowi would face challenges in corruption eradication efforts.
