Man-made islands are seen being constructed for the Jakarta Bay reclamation project.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan signaled that the government will revoke the Jakarta Bay reclamation moratorium. “Yes, we’ll only need to hold the meeting,” Luhut said on Wednesday, September 27.

According to his statement, the ministry will hold a meeting on Friday, September 29, which aim to discuss problems regarding the Jakarta bay reclamation project. The minister claims that the discussion regarding the reclamation will only affect Island G.

Luhut said that the reclamation project at Jakarta Bay will be over as the discussion regarding the water intake in Island G is solved. He also claims that there will be no more problems of spatial zoning at the islands in Jakarta Bay. “Each spot has been identified. None of it violates existing provisions,” the minister said.

Previously, the Island G technical team agreed to a technological engineering in the island so the island's reclamation project would not interrupt the operations of the Muara Karang Gas and Steam Power plant.

In May 2016, the Environment and Forestry Ministry imposed sanctions that forced a temporary discontinuation of the Jakarta Bay reclamation project in Island G. The island’s developer, Muara Wisesa Samudra, was asked to evaluate its environmental impact analysis (AMDAL) documents.
