TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin emphasizes that the practice of illegal marriage promoted by nikahsirri.com is certainly against religious values. He says that marriage is sacred and must not be contaminated by behaviors that merely focus on physical pleasure.

“It’s clear that such practice is not right. Religion does not justify that since it is believed as illegal behaviors and violates religious values,” said Lukman on Wednesday, September 27.

As previously reported, police are currently investigating the nikahsirri.com that originally offered its members a virginity auction and 'siri' marriages or marriages that are unregistered by the government. The website founder, Aris Wahyudi, was named as a suspect for conducting such illegal business.

The website's users are ordered to pay a Rp100,000 dowry to obtain a username and password from Aris Wahyudi. The username and password will enable the clients to access the database including pictures of website’s partners.

The partners of nikahsirri.com are people who are interested in becoming brides or grooms, and also the marriage officiant and witnesses.

Since it was launched on September 19, clients of nikahsirri.com climbed to 2,700 people and 300 partners. Jakarta Metro Jaya police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono suspects that the clients enable to access pornographic images featured on the website.
