TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina plans to construct a 1-MW solar panel at Badak NGL in Bontang, Kalimantan. The solar energy investment is expected to reach some US$1.4 million or equivalent to Rp18.2 billion.

"By the end of next year we expect the project to be completed," Pertamina's project analyst Fuadi Nasution said in Jakarta, September 13.

So far, Pertamina has installed solar panels with 1.7 megawatt capacity in Java and Bali. In addition to Kalimantan, Pertamina also plans to install solar panels in Sumatra and Papua.

Fuadi said that the installation of solar panels in Java in May this year has managed to reduce carbon emissions (CO2) by as much as 125 tons per 14 days. He asserted that Pertamina seeks to contribute to the search for eco-friendly alternative energy sources, especially with the affordable price of solar panels and its long durability of up to 25 years.

For the short term, he said, Pertamina will also focus on the development of alternative energy infrastructure from geothermal and bioenergy until 2019.
