TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission on Human Rights regrets a hate-filled rally against the implementation of a full day school program planned by the government.

Based on a one-minute clip video uploaded on Youtube, the children who were attending the rally yelled out words that are inappropriate to be said by children. Numerous santri (Islamic school students) can be seen dancing while chanting words “Kill the Minister, kill him, kill him. Kill the Minister right now.”

The chants the protesters sang were allegedly addressed to the Culture and Education Minister Muhadjir Effendy.

According to the National Human Rights Commissioner Maneger Nasution, the protesters’ yells can be considered as a form of hate speech. “The hate speech chanted by the children during the rally, as shown in the video, is really inappropriate and harms the children’s growth,” saidManeger on Monday, August 14.

Maneger Nasution condemns the involvement of children in such rally, he is also concerned that their verbal hatred will transform into acts of violence.

It is still unknown where and when the rally took place. Based on the video uploaded by an anonym, the santri hoisted the Indonesian national flag and Nahdalatul Ulama flag while chanting the takbir (an appraisal to God in Islam meaning God is Great) throughout the rally.
