TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former participants of the Defend Islam Rally held on December 2, 2016, accused President Jokowi`s administration of committing human rights violations by criminalizing a number of ulemas.
Therefore, the Defend Islam Rally, also called 212 rally, Alumni called on the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) to issue a recommendation related to the alleged human rights violations committed by the government.
“The recommendation must point out structured and massive human rights violations committed by the government,” Defend Islam Rally Alumni Presidium Ansufri Idrus Sambo said at the Komna HAM secretariat in Jakarta on Friday, June 2, 2017.
Sambo warned that if the criminalized ulemas were not released, there could be a horizontal conflict.
Sambo explained that the Komnas HAM’s recommendation would be used as a basis to push the House of Representatives to hold an extraordinary session to overthrow President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.
Sambo asserted that the move could not be categorized as treason since it is constitutional. He argues that such a move was practiced during former President Soeharto era.
