TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono is set to build 4 million units of affordable houses by 2019 provided for low-income people.
"By 2019, 4 million houses will have been built with the budget of Rp74 trillion," Basuki said in Yogyakartaon Saturday (12/8).
Basuki explained the number 4 million units of houses were determined by referring to the rapid progress of low-cost house construction up to this year. Since the program a million low-cost houses was initiated from 2015 to 2016, as many as 1,5 million units of houses were built. Meanwhile, from early 2017 to August 2017, 449.000 units of houses have been built.
"This indicates that affordable housing is still the priority in President Joko Widodo’s program. This is also intended to deal with backlog reaching 11,6 million houses," he continued.
The Minister added that housing is still one of the most significant primary needs of Indonesians even after 72 years of independence other than food and clothing.
