TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the government is mulling an offer from Chinese firm Zhong Yang-Chun Wu to develop affordable housing.
“It’s [Vice President] Jusuf Kalla’s guest; there are ideas to build affordable houses, apartments, public low-cost housing; apartments for the people. No commitment was made but basically, they have the methodology, apartment construction technology using the modular system which is faster and cheaper; how cheap is it? They will visit my office,” Basuki said yesterday at the Vice Presidential Office.
Basuki accompanied Vice President Jusuf Kalla in a meeting with Lam Kin Chung, the CEO of Zhong Yang-Chun Wu, real estate developer from Hong Kong, offering the development of affordable housing with the modular system.
Basuki added that the government will also consider Lam Kin Chung’s offer to finance each house the company will build.
“No agreement has been made, they only made offers. Conveying the idea that they can bring modular technology; if that’s the case, they can contribute to the government’s one million house program. For example, [to build] just one hundred thousand houses, they offer the financing scheme as well,” he said.
Lam Kin Chung said that the concept being offered is designed particularly for apartments for low-income people.
