Facebook Set To Establish Its Indonesian Headquarters

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Facebook plans to open its Indonesian headquarters this month, other than to improve their services this move also intends to legally establish Facebook’s business permanently in Indonesia.
According to Director General of Application and Informatics at the Communication and Informatics Ministry, Semuel A. Pangarepan, said that Facebook will mostly take the status as an incorporated company (PT).

On Wednesday, several Facebook representatives met with Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara. The meeting was also attended by Director Head of Trust and Safety Asia Pacific, Jeff Wu, and Head of Public Policy Southeast Asia, Alvin Tan.
They discussed several topics such as Facebook’s plan to open an office in Indonesia and formulating ways to suppress contents that violate Indonesian laws, especially contents that are affiliated to terrorism and radicalism. Facebook’s latest feature called geo-blocking was mentioned in the meeting.
The social media giant Facebook will also create special algorithms specifically for the Indonesian market to counter the spread of numerous fake news or hoaxes that circulate through Facebook.
