TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Telegram CEO Pavel Durov says his messaging app enterprise will soon block terrorism contents. "We created a special team for faster blocking, and it has been discussed with the Indonesian government," Durov said at the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Tuesday, August 2.

Durov came to Indonesia and met with the Communications Minister Rudiantara to discuss the blocking of Telegram applications by the government. The blocking of the app was done because it was not quick to respond to the request to block terrorist content submitted by the government.

Telegram applications that are encrypted are considered to have been exploited by terrorist networks to spread radical teachings. The app also has the capacity of sending files up to 1.5 gigabytes and can accommodate 10,000 members in a group without knowing who the administrator is.

According to Durov, before his company made the blocking team, it needed 36 hours to freeze the terrorist content. The terrorism message will be closed by Telegram within four hours at the latest. "We also provide Indonesian-speaking operators to block terrorist content being processed more quickly," he said.

The Ministry's Director General of Information Applications Samuel Abrijani Pangarepan said his agency will soon reopen the Telegram web application that has been blocked. "Hopefully, this week," he said.
