TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara met with Telegram CEO Pavel Durov to discuss the formulation of standard operating procedures (SOP) for Telegram in order to resume its operation in Indonesia.
The Ministry’s official Twitter account posted a photo of Rudiantara and Pavel having a lunch together before the meeting was kicked off.

On Tuesday, August 1, Durov tweeted, ”In Jakarta, meeting with local teams brainstorming ways how to eradicate ISIS propaganda more efficiently.”
Earlier in July, Telegram was blocked by after the government discovered that the messaging app was frequently used by ISIS to communicate with its terrorist cells and plot a number of attacks.

Telegram has been used as a communication means by terrorists because the application uses an end-to-end encryption that cannot be breached by Indonesian authorities.
