TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party has decided to withdraw its members from the House of Representatives’ inquiry committee on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Desmond J. Mahesa, deputy chairman of the Gerindra Faction at the House of Representatives, revealed that the reason behind the party’s withdrawal was related to the committee’s legality issues.

Desmond views that the initial formation of the committee, known as Pansus KPK, failed to fulfill the House’s requirements.
Desmond also observed that in reality, the committee has not included members of every faction in the House of Representatives, even though it is required to.
Desmond added that the incompetence of the Pansus KPK was shown by the committee’s decision to interview corruption convicts at Sukamiskin penitentiary, even though Gerindra opted against such a move.

Desmond alleged that there are several individuals in the Pansus KPK who deliberately intend to weaken the KPK. Pansus KPK now consists of members from political parties that are in coalition with the Government.
