Gunadarma University Confirms Bullying Incident on Campus

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gunadarma University official Irwan Bastian has confirmed a bullying of a student with special need as shown in a viral video that reportedly taken at the campus in Depok, West Java.


According to Irwan, the student with special need with the initial of MF studies Informatics System at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, class of 2016. "The joke was not normal. It’s excessive. The perpetrators are his classmates," Irwan said yesterday.


In the 14-second video, a number of students mocked and bullied MF before the latter threw a trash can at the bullies.

"We have launched an investigation and met the students who have bullied MF," he said. "There are three perpetrators."


Irwan said that having received the info about the incident on social media, the faculty immediately sought confirmation. According to him, the incident has harmed the university’s image.


Gunadarma University will impose harsh sanctions against three perpetrators who have bullied their friend.


"A team will make the decision over the bullying act. Be it a verbal, written warnings, or even be expelled from the university. In fact, if there is any element of crime, [the perpetrators] may be jailed," Irwan said.
