KPK Inquiry Committee Meets Police to Avoid Further Turmoil

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Special committee of the KPK inquiry plans to pay visit to the Indonesian National Police HQ today. Police Deputy Chief, Comm. Gen. Syafruddin said that the visit is merely a halal bihalal (local Indonesian tradition where people meet) following the end of Ramadan.
According to Syafruddin, the casual meeting is to build a positive communication between Police, KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission), and House of Representatives (DPR). “It’s to avoid further political turmoil,” said Syafruddin.

The inquiry committee and police had their disagreement in the past regarding the plan to forcefully pick-up Miryam S, who is a suspect for perjury in the electronic ID or e-KTP graft case, to be presented in a questioning session.
According to rules governing the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representative Council (DPD), and the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), the inquiry committee is permitted to file a police request to forcefully summon a person if the person involved refuses the inquiry’s summon three times.

The Indonesian National Police Chief, Tito Karnavian, argues that the summon request by the KPK inquiry team is unclear and isn’t regulated under the criminal code.
