TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police are closely watching 600 Indonesians who allegedly become foreign terrorist fighters and are affiliated with ISIS.

The surveillance is carried out to prevent radicalism and hunt down the terrorist suspects.

"We watch all of them, both in Indonesia and abroad," Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said on Friday, July 7.

About 290 of them reside in Indonesia and the rest are abroad. This number is a lot more than 83 Indonesians who are on the wanted list of terrorists revealed by Law and Human Rights Ministry’s Immigration Directorate General on Wednesday.

Martinus added that the 83 previously-revealed names are included in these 600 ISIS-affiliated suspects.

He explained that the people under surveillance are mapped into a number of categories. Some are adults, children, those who died in battle, those who failed to leave and those who are allegedly deported.

"We watch everyone closely and we will take necessary actions when they are captured," he said.

The Immigration DG said it had received the data from the police. "So, we help watch if there is anyone, who enters or leaves Indonesia, affiliated with ISIS," said Agung Sampurno, the head of public relation at the Immigration DG.
