TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry ensured the public that every airport in Indonesia has prepared for the counter-exodus period after the 2017 Eid holiday.
“I believe that [transportation services] are ready for the counter-exodus period,” Wahyu Utomo, inspector general at the Transportation Ministry, said following his teleconference with 23 airport officials across Indonesia on Thursday, June 29.
Concerning flight schedules, Wahyu confirmed that he has reminded every Indonesian airline to prevent any flight delays.
“Even if there is a delay, it must be weather-related,” he said.
Currently, there are no signs of a sudden increase in the number of passengers traveling through airports. Wahyu predicted that the number of passengers would peak on Saturday and Sunday when the Eid holiday for government officials ends.
The government has prepared three airports to anticipate the sudden spike of passenger number. Adi Sucipto airport in Yogyakarta, Adi Sumarmo Airport in Surakarta, and Achmad Yani Airport in Semarang will extend their operational hour up to 12 a.m. Meanwhile, Juanda Airport in Surabaya and Soekarno-Hatta airport will operate for 24 hours.
