TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State - owned train operator PT KAI found more than a dozen passengers heading to Kutoarjo, Central Java, have fake tickets in their possession.

"We found 12 passengers who have fake boarding passes," KAI operation region 1 spokesperson Suprapto said in Jakarta on Saturday, June 24.

Suprapto explained that the case was revealed on Friday. At first, an officer checked boarding passes of nine passengers heading to North Kutojaya leaving at 05:25. The officer suspected the tickets since the barcode did not show up.

He added that such a case recurred in the evening. "We found fake tickets from three passengers taking extra KA Kutojaya Premium scheduled to leave at 11:20," he said.

The tickets were visibly different from the original tickets in terms of the type of paper and the texture, he continued. Furthermore, he revealed, the barcode was unidentified when it was scanned. The owners of the fake tickets are now being investigated by station security officers.

Based on their confession, Suprapto explained, they obtained the tickets from their friends. Suprapto disclosed that there is an indication they all got the tickets from the same person.

"The type of paper of the 12 fake tickets bears a close resemblance," he said.
