TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has decided that former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok will be transferred from the Police Mobile Brigade detention house in Kelapa Dua, Depok.
The decision after Ahok became a convict in a blasphemy case. The two year jail sentence handed down by the panel of judges of North Jakarta District Court last year has been settled since Basuki and the public prosecutors dropped their appeal. North Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office General Crime Unit head Dicky Oktavia, however, added that prosecutors have yet to decide if they will transfer the convict to Cipinang or Salemba prison.
Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat expects Ahok to continue to be held at his current location for security reasons. He said that correctional houses’ in Jakarta is not safe. The number of inmates has exceeded the capacity. “But I’ll leave it to the legal process and the prosecutors’ judgment,” he said.
Penitentiary Directorate General spokesman Syarpani has denied Djarot’s concern. He ensured that Ahok will get equal treatment. “One thing is for sure, we will put him temporarily in an orientation room for a month,” he said.
