Three Investors Eyeing Bangka Belitung Economic Zone

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said that three investors are eyeing investment in Tanjung Kelayang Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bangka Belitung. Three major investors Sheraton Hotel Group, Sofitel Hilton Group and China Harbour Engineering Company are ready to invest Rp14.2 trillion.
The three investors have signed a memorandum of understanding on investment with a consortium called Belitung Maritime, which is the operator of Tanjung Kelayang SEZ, comprising PT Belitung Pantai Intan (Belpi) PT Nusa Kukila and PT Tanjung Kasuarina.

Sheraton and Sofitel will build luxury hotels worth Rp400 billion and Rp418 billion, respectively. China Harbor Engineering Company will develop tourism potential and infrastructure in Tanjung Kelayang SEZ worth around Rp13.5 trillion.
Darmin Nasution said that the three investors will help promote Tanjung Kelayang SEZ. He expects more foreign tourists will visit the SEZ after the hotel construction, which is expected to attract local investors.
The government will also form an administrator for Tanjung Kelayang SEZ.
Tanjung Kelayang was named tourism SEZ on March 15. The area is built in phases and adopt heritage concept.
Darmin said that the SEZ in Belitung is being developed since the region is not connected to transportation networks such as Trans Sumatra toll road.
