TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, urged the public to stay calm following the improvised explosive device blasts by a suicide bomber taking place in Kampung Melayu, east Jakarta. The former Jakarta Governor had already ordered the National Police to investigate the case.

“I urge each and every Indonesians across the nation to stay calm,” says President Jokowi on Thursday, May 25.

President Jokowi also asked society to preserve the nation’s unity, serenity, and composure. Especially considering that the terror attack happened just days away heading towards the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The President has ordered the Indonesian National Police Chief, general Tito Karnavian, to conduct a thorough investigation on the suspect’s remaining cells. “Hunt them down to its roots,” he said.

Jokowi deems the attack outrageous as it affected the general society. “The victims were motorcycle-taxi and public transport drivers, street vendors, and policemen,” he said.

“I offer my deepest sympathy for the victims and families of the victims,” he said. “Especially to the members of the police who died in the line of duty.”
