Flash Floods Kill 5 in Magelang, Central Java

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Flash floods that hit Nipis sub-village, Sambungrejo village, Grabag, Magelang regency, Central Java on Saturday (29/4) left five people dead.


Magelang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Edy Susanto said that flash flood struck after highly intense precipitation in Grabag district since noon. The heavy rain caused Ndaru River to overflow and carry flood materials.


He explained that the flood has taken five lives which are Sutar (50), Sumisah (60), Mirah (30), a toddler whose mother is Aryanti, dan Slamet (60). In addition, three victims are severely injured. They are Nanda (13), Marlan (30), and Aryanti.


"There are two victims who are reported missing, Mardiyah and her child," he added.


He said that this evening, evacuation and search will be carried out by a joint team.
