TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s top cleric Hasyim Muzadi passes away at the age of 72 at 6:15 on Thursday, March 16, 2017. According to the deceased’s son-in-law Arif Zamhari, the cleric will be buried at noon today.
In the past month, the former Nahdlatul Ulama chairman’s condition had been deteriorating which led to him being admitted to Cardiovascular Care Unit (CVCU) of Lavalette Hospital in Malang City. Many had visited the former presidential advisory board member, including Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
Hasyim Muzadi had earlier been treated in the same hospital for a week since January 6. He was discharged from the hospital in a stable condition on January 17 and was allowed to rest at his private residence in Malang City.
