TEMPO.CO, Vancouver - Glee Star Cory Monteith's life was cut tragically short on Saturday, July 13. The 31-year-old actor, who played a heart- throb Finn Hudson in the Fox TV hit, was found dead in a hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver, Canada, according to police. The cause of death was not immediately apparent, police say, but foul play has been ruled out. Medical examiners will conduct an autopsy on tomorrow, July 15.
Cory, who had been in the musical drama since its 2009 start, was treated for drug addiction in April, and had a history of substance-abuse.
His body was found by Pacific Rim staff after he failed checking on Saturday, said Vancouver's Deputy Police Chief Doug Lepard.
"He returned to his room at the Pacific Rim alone early yesterday morning, having been out with friends earlier in the evening", said Deputy Police Chief Lepard. Coroner Lisa Lapointe said: "We do not have a great deal of information as to cause of death."
Cory had been dating Lea Michele since last year, who played his opposite cast Rachel Berry in Glee, which follows a group of American secondary school misfits in their quest for singing contest glory. Canadian-born Cory described himself on Twitter @CoryMonteith, as "tall, awkward, Canadian, actor, drummer, person".
In 2011, he won a Teen Choice award for top actor in comedy. The show's cast won a Screen Actors Guild award for an ensemble in a comedy the prior year.
He was treated for drug abuse at aged 19 and had been open about his battle against addiction, telling one interviewer he took "anything and everything" and "still lucky to be alive". Rest in Peace Cory.
