TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) issued a friendly reminder to avoid defending corruption suspects. “Why a corruption suspect is always be defended? It’s inappropriate,” he said on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
Agus asked that KPK should not be prevented in their attempts to eradicate corruption. He also urges the public to collectively diminish Indonesia’s tradition of corruption.
Agus issued this statement in response to the comments issued by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Fahri Hamzah. Fahri claimed that Agus has a conflict of interest in investigating the e-KTP graft case with the Ministry of Home Affairs while he was taking the role as Chairman of the.
Fahri suspects that Agus had been involved in the lobbying process in order to win a certain consortium during the tender. This is why Fahri urges Agus to resign from his position as KPK Chairman.

Following Fahri’s statement, Agus only responded with a Javanese proverb, “Gusti Allah mboten sare,” which translated to 'God never sleeps'.
A number of legislators proposed their right for an inquiry to investigate the e-KTP graft case proceedings. KPK did not want to comment about it but the anti-graft agency hopes that this does not bother the ongoing prosecution of the e-KTP graft case.
