TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Singapore Biennale 2016 hits a new record in the number of visitors attending the Asian art exhibition. At least 614,000 visited the biennial art expo entitled An Atlas of Mirrors.

Singapore Biennale 2016 is the fifth art expo featuring works of artists from across Asia. The event was held from October 27, 2016, to February 26, 2017, at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM). The previous Singapore Biennale, held in 2013, recorded more than 560,000 visitors.

A number of artworks were also showcased at the National Museum of Singapore, Peranakan Museum, Asian Civilization Museum, The Arts House, and the Singapore Management University de Suantio Gallery.

Joyce Toh, an assistant curator of the Singapore Art Museum said in a press release received by Tempo on Friday, March 3, 2017, that responses and enthusiasm shown by visitors highlighted the museums' commitment to exhibit Asian contemporary arts, raise current issues, and promote local cultures.

The art exhibition featured 63 artists from 19 countries showcasing various artworks with nine subthemes. Curators of the event were Joyce Toh, Tan Siuli, Loui ho, Andrea Fam, and John Tung and four co-curators Suman Gopnath from India, Nur Hanim Khairuddin from Malaysia, Michael Lee from Singapore and Xiang Liping from China.

Indonesian artists participating in the event are Ade Darmawan, Eddi Susanto, Made Djirna, Made Wianta, Melati Suryodarmo, Titarbi, and Agan Harahap.
