TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned PT Angkasa Pura II, the operator of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, is committed to adopting smart airport principles in a bid to improve its operational efficiency.
PT Angkasa Pura II president director Muhammad Awaluddin in a press release yesterday explained that smart airport principles are implemented through aviation facility digitalization, among others, the installation of Visual Docking Guidance System (VGDS) at Terminal 3 apron of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
“The VGDS can help shorten the time needed by airplanes to land close to the terminal making it more efficient for airlines and overall is expected to have an impact on on-time performance,” Muhammad Awaluddin said.
According to him, the VGDS can guide airplanes to land quickly and precisely to gates or get close to the terminal until the parking space. VGDS can automatically identify airplane types, the airlines who operate them and their departure city.
Moreover, VDGS will also support aviation security and safety in line with an improvement in runway capacity to serve 86 to 100 flights per hour.
“Through this device, airplane parking time can also be precisely calculated,” Muhammad Awaluddin.
Earlier, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s operator had agreed to work closely with state-owned telecommunication company Telkom to establish a digital cinema screening top international films as well as game stations.
The digital cinema is available at the domestic departure hall of Terminal 3 with a capacity of 13 executive seats equipped with a wide-screen display and a soundproof room. Visitors can also enjoy private booths in a section in the airport’s digital cinema room.
PT Angkasa Pura II had also improved electricity system at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in order to increase quality and maintain passenger services.
He elaborated that improved quality includes the establishment of a designated substation at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport to ensure sustained power supply at the airport.
