Police: Perpetrator of Bandung Bomb Attack Linked to ISIS

TEMPO.CO, Karawang - West Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Anton Charliyan said that Yayat Cahdiyat, alleged perpetrator in Bandung bomb attack yesterday was linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). “Yayat Cahdiat is linked to Jamaah Anshor Daulah which is affiliated with ISIS,” he said.
Yesterday, Yayat and his accomplice allegedly launched a homemade bomb at Pandawa Park in Bandung. After the explosion, Yayat and his partner in crime ran away. Locals tried to catch Yayat who headed toward a government office, in which he threatened government officials and burned the second floor of the building before being gunned down by police. Yayat died after being shot in the chest. Police are still searching his partner.
The National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said that Yayat Cahdiyat alias Dani alias Abu Salam is a repeat offender. “[Yayat was involved] in terrorism activities in relation with military training and other activities in support of the training,” Martinus said at his office yesterday. Yayat was sentenced to 3 years in jail in 2012. The man who was born in the city of Purwakarta on June 24, 1975, was released in 2015.
Terrorism expert at the University of Indonesia (UI) Al Chaidar said that the perpetrator of Bandung bomb attack is a member of Bahrun Naim terror ring in West Indonesia Mujahideen. The attack demonstrates that ISIS-linked radical and terrorist groups still exist and remain dangerous. “They are still trying to establish a caliphate in Indonesia,” he said.
