TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is scheduled to question Emirsyah Satar, Garuda's former president director from 2005-2014, as a suspect in the bribery scandal implicating him.

KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah on Monday said that said this is Emirsyah's first questioning as a suspect.

"He will be questioned as a suspect in the alleged bribery scandal involving British engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce during the procurement of Airbus SAS planes by Garuda Indonesia," he told Tempo on Friday, February 17.

Febri said Emirsyah was present at today's initial hearing and came at around 09:00 am this morning.

Febri said that Norma Aulia, Garuda's senior manager for head office accounting, has also been questioned as a witness for Emirsyah. The antigraft body's investigators have also questioned Garuda's VP for Treasury Management from 2005-2012 Albert Burhan, its Director of Strategy and IT from 2007-2010 Elisa Lumbantoruan, Senior Manager for Engine Management Azwar Anas, Executive Project Manager Agus Wahjudo, and Connaught International employee Sallyawati Rahardja.

The KPK has named two suspects in the bribery investigation. In addition to Emirsyah, there is also Soetikno Soedarjo, the beneficial owner of Connaught International.

Satar allegedly acted as a third party and accepted Rp46 billion kickback money from Rolls-Royce to give to Emirsyah, to secure a purchase deal for the UK manufacturer's Airbus planes from 2005-2014.
