TEMPO.CO, Penajam - The North Penajam Paser administration, East Kalimantan, expressed an interest in taking over Chevron Indonesia’s oil and gas operations at Terminal Lawe-Lawe, Penajam District, after the US-based oil company’s contract expires in 2018.

“As Chevron’s work contract expires, the regional administration is interested in taking over the oil and gas operation at Terminal Lawe-Lawe,” Ahmad Usman, assistant to North Penajam Paser Regency secretary, said in Penajam on Thursday, February 9, 2017.

He said the North Penajam Paser administration will establish a region-owned company prior to the acquisition.

“We will issue a regional regulation as the legal basis that regulates the company,” Usman explained.

According to Usman, the government has included the draft bill in the 2017 Regional Legislation Program to show its commitment to the acquisition.

“The draft bill has been proposed to the Legislation Board at the Legislative Council to be deliberated this year,” he added.

Usman explained that the North Penajam Paser administration is experienced in running an oil and gas company. In addition, the administration has communicated the acquisition plan with the central government and Pertamina.
