TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that he was once asked by 11 members of the United States Congress on the eradication of corruption in Indonesia. "To be honest, at that moment, the question was more like a pressure to me," Jokowi said during the opening of the National Conference on Corruption Eradication on December 1, 2016.
Jokowi explained that he answered the question by revealing data on corruption convicts in Indonesia, which reached a total number of 362 convicts.
Jokowi added that the data is not something that Indonesia should be proud of. The President stated that the large number showed that there are still many people who are involved in corruption.
"Don't applause to the numbers. If the number gets smaller, that would indicate that we have succeeded in preventing and eradicating corruption," Jokowi said.
