TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Din Syamsuddin, chairman of the advisory council at the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), viewed that Donald Trump’s triumph in the US presidential election could have negative impacts on Muslims.

"[I'm] concerned that Donald Trump's victory could worsen the relationship between the United States and the Islamic world," Din said at his office in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 9, 2016.

According to Din, Donald Trump often issues harsh statements against Muslims.

"This could cause new problems amid the tension between the United States and the Islamic world," Din added.

The tension between the US and Islam escalated when former President George W. Bush launched war on terror policy following the September 11 attacks. The tension eased when President Barrack Obama took office.

"I think Donald Trump is worse than George W. Bush," Din said, adding that Trump issued a statement about his plan to isolate the US from immigrants.

Din deplored the statement since the majority of the US population are immigrants.

"We'll see about that later. He might have different policies from what he said during the campaign," Din added.
