TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan confirmed that the reclamation of Islet G at the Jakarta Bay would be resumed, since no issues related to the project had been found based on a review conducted by the government.
"It has been reviewed, and there are no issues," Luhut said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, September 9, 2016.
Luhut claimed that there was no reason to stop the reclamation project, in light of legal and environmental aspects. Luhut added that the government would announce the decision regarding the continuation of the project.
Earlier, the government decided to stop the reclamation of Islet G developed by Agung Podomoro’s subsidiary PT Muara Wisesa Samudra. The decision was taken by former Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Rizal Ramli after being discussed in a meeting with Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya, Maritime and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, former Transportation Minister Ignatius Jonan, and Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama.
Rizal at that time argued that the suspension was due to an indication of severe violations that could pose threats to environment, port development and sea traffic.
