TEMPO.CO, Rio de Janeiro - Indonesian mixed double pair Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir progressed to the badminton semifinal at the 31st Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They managed to defeat their Indonesian opponents Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto in the quarter-final.
The world's number three mixed double pair managed to win in 2 sets; 21-16, 21-11, in a 35-minute game.
Tontowi/Liliyana will face the world’s number one mixed double pair Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei in the semifinal. The Chinese pair has won against Japanese pair Kenta Kazuno/Ayane Kurihara with 21-14, 21-12.
Liliyana said that Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei were tough opponents, given their status as world's number one. "We have to focus and stay calm," she said.
"We have fought them. We lost and we won. I would give the best for tomorrow," added Tontowi.
