TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Lion Mentari Airlines (Lion Air) has denounced the existence of pilot association in the company. The company said the pilots who have used Lion Air’s name are troubled ones and often made lapses.
“They often defy the company executives, fail to follow the schedule, and are currently given more education,” Lion Air General Director Edward Sirait told a press conference in his office, Wednesday, August 3, 2016.
He said that pilots who named themselves as Lion Air pilot association are frauds. An unauthorized use of Lion Air’s name is forgery and fraud, he said. According to him, an organization should be established for the right reasons, instead of to destroy the company.
Edward went on to say that pilot employment contract is a professional one agreed upon between the two parties. If any pilot commit sabotage, they have breached the contract and deemed as gross violation of employment of contract.
Pilots who no longer perform their duty to fly according to schedule and provoke other pilots had committed gross violations. “Let alone publishing company’s matters which is not within their remit,” he said.
On that basis, Lion Air had fired 14 pilots. Edward said that they were no longer Lion Air’s employees.
The issue arises after the pilots went on strike, leading to flight delays on May 10, 2016. The strike was sparked by late payment of pilot transportation fee.
