Social Minister Deplores Rape Involving Minors in W. Kalimantan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Social Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa is concerned about the gang-rape of a woman in her 20s, which involved junior high school students in Kubu Raya district, West Kalimantan.


“What happened in Kubu Raya is a concern amid the efforts to protect the community,” Social Minister Khofifah was quoted as saying by state-run Antara news agency.


According to the Social Minister, she often found sexual abuse cases that involve minors. They had often been encouraged by adults to do so.


“I often asked children who were involved in sexual crimes as to why they did it. They said they had been encouraged by adults. That’s the answer. In many places. That kind of interactions between children and adults often took place in many places,”


Social Minister said that her office continues to provide advocacy and education to the community with regard to child protection.


“The community, particularly parents must be maximized to protect child wherever they are,” she said.


Reports said that a women with the initial of Ay had allegedly been raped by 25 men, comprising adults and underage students.


The victim claimed that she was raped around July 2016.
