TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Mantiqi (territory) III leader of the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) Muhamad Nasir a.k.a. Nasir Abas has urged all armed civilian groups, including the leader of East Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT) Santoso alias Abu Wardah to turn themselves in to the authorities.
Nasir Abas was in Palu as a speaker in a dialogue on deradicalization held by the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI) in Palu, Wednesday, June 22, 2016.
He has urged Santoso and his group to immediately stop their radical movement and discontinue his effort that he deemed contradictory with the national ideology.
“Enough Santoso, get down here, it’s better to turn yourself in, have a sympathy for your family. You have nothing to aim for. Indonesia does not antagonize nor in a war against Muslims. Indonesia appreciates and facilitates Muslims,” he said.
Moreover, he said that in his acts, Santoso has no end game, similar to Abu Sayyaf group in the Philippines.
“Santoso has no end game as he has no strategic thinking. There is only calls for action, that’s all. For them, the most important thing is to do something,” he said.
When he was in the JI, they believed that they should go for jihad at least once in a lifetime.
“To have done something, to have been involved in a shootout, to have fight against the enemy, be it cops, the military, anyone. Therefore, they go to Afghanistan, the Philippines or conflict areas, they have a huge calling to achieve the so-called ‘fadilah’. That’s what happening to Santoso right now,” Nasir said.
