Advertising Expenses Book Significant Increase in Q1 of 2016

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of expenses recorded for media advertising in Q1 2016 grew by 24 percent compared to the same period in 2015.
"The signs of [advertising industry] recovery could be seen from Q3 of 2015, and now it is growing just like it should be," said Hellen Katherina, Media Director of Nielsen Indonesia on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
In the January 2016-March 2016 period, there were ten product categories that spent more on advertising. Out of the ten categories, clove cigarette product was listed as the highest contributor with Rp 1.9 trillion advertising expenses, marking a 76 percent growth compared to last year, according to Hellen.
In addition to clove cigarettes, government and political organizations also recorded an increase in advertising expenses. Hellen said that the amount of advertising expenses for government and political organization grew 76 percent with a total value of Rp 1.8 trillion.
"The increase was driven by the Health Ministry's campaign to eradicate poliomyelitis," said Hellen.
Meanwhile, Hellen said that ad expenses in the hair care products category grew 36 percent compared to Q1 2015, with a total value of Rp 1.3 trillion.
