TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After he was charged with accepting a bribe over the regulations on the reclamation of Jakarta's coastal area, Mohamad Sanusi resigned as a member of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) and from the Gerindra Party. His chances of becoming a candidate in the Jakarta gubernatorial election are gone. He is now detained by the KPK. Last week, his lawyer, Krisna Murti spoke on behalf of his client.

Is your client dragging others in the case he's involved in?

Yes, that was reported, one of them being a close associate of the governor, Sunny Tanuwidjaja.

How is Sunny involved, according to your client?

He was the link between the executive and the legislature.

For example, what was discussed between Sunny and your client?

My client, for example, once asked him, 'What about your friend?' It was about the reduction in the contribution to 5 percent being included in the regulation.

Sanusi also mentioned the role of Sugianto Kusuma alias Aguan.

I don't want to comment about that. Let that happen in court.

About the Rp2 billion for Sanusi, was that intended to be shared with other DPRD members?

That was a personal gift, to help Bang Uci (Sanusi's nickname) in his campaign for the governorship in 2017. He's picked a deputy, so it's not a bribe.

Are you convinced this is all for free?

I heard there was a small request for help over the regulation being drafted. The details will be disclosed later, but actually there's no link.

Why did Sanusi resign from the DPRD and Gerindra?

So he can focus more on his legal case. (*)
