TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has decided to ban traditional horse-drawn buggies (delman) at the National Monument complex, Central Jakarta, following an outbreak of skin disease among the horses.
Those horse-drawn buggies will be relocated to Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta.
Basuki has also instructed the Jakarta Food Security, Fisheries and Marine (KPKP) Agency to relocate them.
KPKP Agency Head Mulyadi said that the government has decided to relocate those buggies because based on the result of the checking to 32 horses used to carry them, 28 of them tested positive to have h a skin disease carried by strongylus vulgaris.
Strongylus vulgaris, commonly known as the bloodworm, is a common horse parasite in the phylum Nematoda. It generally lives in the large intestine with larvae that migrate into the mesenteric arteries.The virus can also be transmitted to humans and it can destroy nerve system and even lead to death.
