TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Thousands of Catholics crowd the Cathedral of Saint Mary of Assumption, Central Jakarta to attend Good Friday service.

The service was presided by Rev S Bratakartana. The Cathedral holds three times services in today's Good Friday; at 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Across the Cathedral, Muslims performed Friday prayer at the Istiqlal mosque. The mass concentration has resulted in congestions in the surrounding area. Police officers were seen guarding the prayer.

Before the noon services, the Station of the Cross and the Stations of the Cross Tableau were performed at the Cathedral this morning.

In the Good Friday service, the worshippers reflected the Passion of the Christ. Thereafter, they kissed the cross to pay respect to Jesus.

The theme for Easter 2016 is “Kerahiman Allah Memerdekakan” (Liberation by the Lord’s Mercy) as a call to grasp the meaning of the Lord’s Mercy.
