TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - PT Angkasa Pura II has confirmed that Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s Terminal 3 Ultimate will begin its operation in May 2016. “Late May to be exact,” said PT Angkasa Pura II president director Budi Karya on Wednesday, January 27, 2016.
According to Budi Karya, Terminal 3, which has a capacity of 25 passengers, will become a transit point, just like in Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Terminal 3 will be reserved for international flight. Overseas flight can go directly to destination country. “For example, we can go directly from Jakarta to Australia or Middle East,” he said. Domestic flights will be centered in Terminal 1 and 2.
Budi admitted that Soekarno-Hatta Airport is far behind Kuala Lumpur Airport and Changi Airport in transiting international passengers. “There are 12 million international flights, but there are only around 2 million passengers that transit.”
Terminal 3 will also address overcapacity of the airport. Terminal 1 and 2 will also be revitalized and capacity of each terminal will be increased to 18 million passengers. “Later, capacity of Soekarno-Hatta Airport will become 62 million passengers,” said Budi Karya.
PT Angkasa Pura II’s technical and operational director Djoko Murjatmodjo said the construction progress has reached 93 percent. He is optimistic that the target to finish the construction in March can be achieved.
Terminal 3 is built with the concept of Art and Culture and various facilities, such as baggage handling system, check in area in the form of eight islands, parking area with capacities of 2,600 cars and 2,600 motorcycles, exhibition hall and parks. Other supporting facilities include hotels and flyover that is connected to the airport train.
