TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Waskita Karya CEO M. Choliq says the light rail transit (LRT) project from Sultan Mahmud Airport to Jakabaring Palembang will start in 2016. “It will begin at the start of next year,” he said at the Jakarta parliament building on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Choliq says the LRT development will start with installation of concrete poles, to ensure that it will be installed in points according to plan.

Waskita is currently conducting an investigating on land preparation. For land acquisition, Choliq says its already at 100 percent, as well as the alignment. “The issue so far is just technical.”

However, the project’s budget is still undetermined and that he is still calculating it. “Its still being negotiated among us and the transportation ministry,” he said.

South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin said the development project will not require a groundbreaking. “That’s just ceremonial, what matters is that it is implemented first so that the railway can overcome congestions and be completed on time,” said Alex.
