Transjakarta to Extend Operation to Bekasi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi City Administration has agreed to extend Transjakarta operation to Bekasi in order to provide better transportation services both in Jakarta and Bekasi.
“As one of Jakarta’s satellite cities, Bekasi agrees with Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who’s planning to extend Transjakarta’s operation to Bekasi,” Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi said on Thursday, November 26.
According to Rahmat, there will be special bus lanes heading to some areas in Bekasi bordering on Jakarta. In addition, there will be fare subsidies if the operational is extended into wider areas in Bekasi.
Transjakarta is also expected to reduce traffic congestion in both cities, because people will be encouraged to take comfortable and safe buses.
“Usually, Bekasi residents have to pay for Rp10,000 (US$0.75) to ride on Transjabodetabek or the integrated bus network (APTB). With Transjakarta in Bekasi, the fare will be much cheaper than that charged by the APTB or Transjabodetabek,” Rahmat added.
Until today, Transjakarta operation has reached Harapan Indah Residence in Bekasi. Meanwhile, The APTB in Bekasi has served three routes, namely Bekasi-Tanah Abang, Bekasi-Pulogadung and Bekasi-Hotel Indonesia.
