TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The closure of Lombok International Airport will continue until Tuesday. Pujiono, the general manager of PT AP I Lombok International Airport, said volcanic ashes from Mt. Barujari still covering the airport area.
“Still closed until Tuesday after being previously closed for four days due to volcanic ashes from mount Barujari,” said Pujiono on Monday, November 9.
The airport closure causes all flights to be canceled. Garuda Indonesia have even announced not to visit Lombok for a while because of the ashes.
“We wanted to open the airport because the fact shows that there is no ash. However, after thorough consideration and seeing images from the satellite, it is still dangerous for flight activities,” said Pujiono.
The closure of the airport is also caused by the wind direction as it also affecting. “Wind direction is also a deciding factor,” he said.
Due to the airport shutdown, hundreds of thousands of passengers from and to Lombok could not fly. There were around 4,000 passengers who canceled their flights from and to Lombok only in one day.
