TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama assured that the provincial minimum wage in Jakarta will go up and will be implemented in 2016.

“It will definitely go up to become Rp 3.1 million,” Ahok said in City Hall Jakarta on Tuesday, October 27.

The wage calculation is based on a Decent Living Needs (DLN) survey plus the inflation component and economic growth. “We have agreed on it since 2012,” said Ahok.

Regarding the Government Regulation on Wages, Ahok said the regulation is just a guide for the local government. “We will certainly follow the government regulation, but we think that the system in Jakarta is more beneficial for the workers,” he said.

The first discussion session on the provincial minimum wages establishment is held today. The council consist of Jakarta Regional Office for Manpower and Transmigration, company association and laborers’ representative, had established the 2016 DLN to Rp 2.98 million.

The DLN value is up by 14.2 percent compared to 2015 of Rp 2.7 million. The increase in value is prompted by new items inserted in the DLN calculation.
