Kota Tua Hosts Shadow Puppet Festival

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of Wayang (shadow puppet) performer groups enlivened the Nusantara Puppet Festival at Visual Art and Ceramic Museum, and Wayang Museum in Jakarta`s Old Town Area, the Kota Tua.


The Getar Wayang Ringkang group performed “Sumantri Ngenger” on the opening day and there were 11 other wayang groups performed on the following days. Each group played different kind of traditional puppet distinctive to their regions, such as Wayang orang Betawi, Wayang Golek Sunda, Wayang Orang Remaja, Wayang Kulit Banyumas, Wayang Orang Bali and Wayang Kulit Betawi.


Head of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency, Purba Hutapea said the festival is aimed to preserve the traditional art as well as providing entertainment for the people. The event was held by the Tourism and Culture Agency in collaboration with the Association of Indonesian Puppeteer (Pepadi).
