More Airports Closed as Haze Spreads

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The impact of haze due to forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan since early September has been spreading.
Operational Director of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II Djoko Murdjatmojo said that on Saturday this week, at least eleven airports were closed due to the haze, and the number rose to 15 airports in the afternoon.
The airports that were closed were among others Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II airport in Palembang, Supadio airport in Pontianak, and Sultan Thaha airport Jambi.
Those airports were closed for around one hour to 24 hours.
On Saturday afternoon, Sultan Syarif Kasim II airport in Pekanbaru and Tjilik Riwut airport in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, were also closed since Friday.
Djoko also said financial loses due to the closure of those airports reached Rp 16 billion.
